We are followers of Jesus.

We are ordinary people who worship an extraordinary God.

Jesus loop

We strive to do the same.

And when we fail, we encourage one another to accept God’s forgiveness and to continue with love.

Meet the Team

  • Four women singing from black folders beneath a cross-shaped sign spelling “GOD” in a church.

    Loving God.

Worship together on Sunday mornings with joyful music, honest preaching and faithful prayer.

  • People mingling at a church gathering beneath red, orange, and yellow fabric ceiling decorations

    Loving People.

Practice giving and receiving love. We know each other by name, check in on each other, and show up when someone needs help.

  • Two people in blue shirts painting a white exterior wall with rollers beside a ladder and construction tools

    Transforming the World.

Serve our community all week  as we feed neighbors, tutor kids, and support the poorest of the poor in our city.

Who is Welcome Here?

Community Presbyterian Church of Vallejo affirms that ALL people are made in God’s image and are therefore worthy of dignity and respect. We strive to follow Jesus and to practice his radical love and inclusivity. Regardless of age, background, race or ethnicity, you are welcome. No matter your gender identity, sexual orientation, economic, educational, or immigration status, you are welcome. No matter your family structure, abilities, political views, Bible knowledge, or personal beliefs, you are a unique reflection of our Creator, and you are welcome to join in Spirit-led worship, service, and community!

What We Believe

We believe in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. We believe that in Jesus, grace abounds!

Our salvation through Jesus is God’s generous gift to us and not the result of our own accomplishments. It is everyone’s job — ministers and laypeople alike — to share this Good News with the whole world.

And we believe faith should leave room for real questions. You don't have to leave your brain, or your doubts, at the door. If you're curious, skeptical, or somewhere in between, you're in good company here.  We welcome people who may have given up on another church, but don’t want to give up on Jesus. We take the Bible seriously, not literally.

As part of the Presbyterian Church (USA) we are organized in a way where clergy and members share in making decisions. We bring our faith and our doubts, our hearts and our heads, and our past and the future.

Meet Our Staff

  • Rev. Wendy Komori Stager, Pastor wearing glasses and a floral blouse standing in front of a leafy green hedge

+ Rev. Wendy Komori Stager, Pastor

Wendy started her service as the pastor here in 2016.  Prior to Vallejo, she has served at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Hill, CA and at Westminster Woods Camp and Conference Center. Wendy grew up in the United Methodist Church and also served two Japanese-American UMC congregations.

Wendy earned a Bachelor of Arts in Marine Biology from Occidental College and a Masters in Divinity from San Francisco Theological Seminary. How did a marine biologist end up as a pastor? In short, Wendy cares more about people and community than she does about sorting and counting plankton species.

“I love that my job is about loving and connecting people.”

In addition to preaching on Sundays, Wendy meets with people and organizations during the week. Over the past ten years, she has come to know and support other local non-profits as well as city leadership. She is also looking forward to deepening and strengthening the community over the next decade.

When not at Community Presbyterian Church of Vallejo, Wendy is nurturing her garden or solving a crossword puzzle. She also loves a good board game or TTRPG (Table Top Role Playing Game) like Dungeons and Dragons.  She and her husband Marc, a licensed psychologist,  have been married over 25 years. They have one daughter who is attending college in Eugene, OR.

+ Betty Heise, Bell Choir Director

That early spark has stayed with her ever since — through choirs, accompanying, flute, and handbells. She's directed Community Presbyterian Church of Vallejo's handbell choirs since 2001 and continues to love introducing new and experienced ringers to everything five octaves of handbells and handchimes can do.

“I love seeing the joy on someone's face who knew nothing about bells and hearing them for the first time.”

She now enjoys singing, playing, directing, spending time with family and friends, and a wide range of hobbies

Betty also loves keeping her hands busy.  She draws, knits and takes photographs.  Also, she loves to laugh, to hear laughter and to share a laugh with another person.

When asked about what she likes most about the job, she says, “I love the wonderful people here at Community Presbyterian Church of Vallejo!”
